چکیده

Reaction with alcohol. The glycosidic OH group of mutarotating sugars react with alcohols to form αand βglycosides or acetals. Thus, glucose forms glucosides and fructose forms fructosides. The glucosides, or glycosides in general, do not exhibit mutarotation as the aldehyde group in them is converted to the acetal group. A number of glycosides occur in nature, e.g., phlorhizin (glucose + phloretin) in rose bark ; digitonin (4 galactose + xylose + digitogenin) in foxglove leaves; amygdalin (2 glucose + 2 mandelonitril) from bitter almonds and saponin (sugar + sapogenin) from soapwort. They are useful as medicaments.

A study on tea aroma formation mechanism: alcoholic aroma precursor amounts and glycosidase activity in parts of the tea plant.

We have shown in molecular basis that alcoholic tea aroma is mainly formed by endogenous enzymatic hydrolysis of glycosidic aroma precursors during manufacturing. Amounts of alcoholic aroma precursor and glycosidase activity in each part of the tea shoot (Camellia sinensis var. sinensis cv Yabukita and a hybrid of var. assamica & var. sinensis cv Izumi) were indirectly measured by means of a cr...

Phytochemicals and biological studies of plants from the genus Balanophora

This review focus on the phytochemical progress and biological studies of plants from the genus Balanophora (Balanophoraceae) over the past few decades, in which most plants growth in tropical and subtropical regions of Asia and Oceania, and nearly 20 species ranged in southwest China. These dioeciously parasitic plants are normally growing on the roots of the evergreen broadleaf trees, especia...

Mechanism of amylopectin formation by the action of Q enzyme.

It has been previously demonstrated that linear amylose can be transformed with the Q enzyme from potatoes to a branched polysaccharide possessing the chemical and biochemical properties of amylopectin (l-3). A mechanism for its synthesis was first suggested by Bourne and Peat (4) in 1945. They postulated that glucose-l-phosphate is built up by phosphorylase to an unbranched chain, “pseudoamylo...

The enzymic utilization of sucrose in the synthesis of amylose and derivatives of amylose, using phosphorylases.

The synthesis of polysaccharides constitutes a challenge to organic chemists. This class of compounds is of current interest because of its importance in biological systemsl'2. Synthetic methods based on classical chemical manipulations are limited in applicabiiity: using these methods it is difficult to form glycosidic linkages stereospecifically, or to generate polymers of high molecular v,'e...

Identification and partial characterization of transcriptional regulators involved in temperature-dependent expression of levansucrase in Pseudomonas syringae

Bacterial levan is formed wherever bacteria encounter moderate to high sucrose concentrations, i.e. in the plant environment, in the mammalian oral cavity, or during the fermentation of plant-borne substrates, i.e. for bio-ethanol production. Consequently, the transcriptional and translational regulation, synthesis, secretion, and enzymatic properties of levan-forming enzymes such as levansucra...
